Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Narrative
As a teacher it will be my responsibility to facilitate the learning of my students in way that inspires them to show their knowlege in a creative way using technology. In my classroom I will use several forms of technology to give students the opportunity be creative in how they choose to demonstrate their understanding of content. I will teach my students how to use technology to collaborate, explore, and express their ideas pertaining to real world issues. Reflecting on the TPACK model really helped me understand that in order to successfully integrate technology into my classroom I must blend my content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and technology knowledge to reach the "sweet spot."
Project Based Learning
One way I can show this standard is to implement Project Based Learning into my classroom. Project Based Learning is an instructional design strategy in which students gain knowledge by investiging and responding to an engaging question or problem. Project Based Learning will inspire students to learn because it will give them more control over how they choose to explore the problem. This can easily be done in groups to encourage the collaboration between students. This instructional strategy will give me as the teacher a chance to facilitate a learning experience which encourages the students to use technology to explore and gather information on their topic. After students have finished their exploring there are countless ways for them to utilize technology to present in a creative way. A few examples of ways students can use technology to present their findings are listed below:
- make a presentation using Prezi
- make a short video using Animoto
- make a short movie utilizing a green screen on iMovie
- make an interactive book using Book Creator
Let's say in class the student's are asked to explore the process of metamorphosis in butterflies and demonstrate their findings using one of the methods listed above. Below you will find a link to an example of how the app Animoto could be used by students to present their findings.
